AUGUST UPDATE

I know I know… bet you thought it had all gone down the drain!!! :-P

Apologies for the dreadful pun folks and for the summer hiatus; please be assured we are still here and discussions with Thames Water are back on track.

Piers Clark (Interim Director of Asset Management for Thames Water Utilities) and other Thames Water colleagues will be attending a meeting with Westminster City Council and MaidaFloodAction in September; attendees will include Martin Low, City Commissioner of Transportation / Built Environment at Westminster council, Lee Rowley (Cabinet Member for Parking and Transportation), ward councilors for the affected areas and MFA members.

We will update you on the outcome of the meeting.

In the meantime, it's never too late for additional people to sign the petition and complete the flood data survey, so please help by continuing to spread the word!

THAMES WATER - OPEN MEETING

What: Thames Water addressing flooding concerns in the area

Area Forums are open meetings with the council to address concerns in the neighbourhood. Paul Dimoldenburg at Westminster Council has been working on behalf of MaidaFloodAction and has obtained agreement from Thames Water to send a representative to answer questions about the Maida Vale / Maida Hill flooding and what they plan to do to prevent a recurrence.

The main meeting starts at 6:30, the Thames Water discussion is planned for 7:10pm. After that there is an opportunity to comment on the councillors' £100k ward budget expenditure and discuss other topics until 8:30pm.

ABOUT MAIDA FLOOD ACTION

Why does this campaign exist?
The original campaign has done its job and we thank Thames Water for taking us seriously and taking action. Several neighbourhoods in W9 and NW6 have flooded many times. This is due to inadequate drainage that can’t handle sudden bursts of heavy rain.

What are our objectives?
Originally it was to ensure that Thames Water accepted responsibility and put a solution in place to resolve it. Now we plan to keep people informed of progress once work starts.

Who are we?
Local residents, residents' associations, landlords and businesses in Maida Hill, Maida Vale area and Little Venice.

How did local residents help?
Thames Water initially said there was no problem because they didn't have enough evidence of complaints. With the questionnaire information and all the names on the petition, we were able to prove there's a BIG problem and get Thames Water's agreement to resolve it.
