Westminster City Council Press Notice

WESTMINSTER CITY COUNCIL LABOUR GROUP

PRESS NOTICE

5th August 2009

CALL FOR THAMES WATER SCRUTINY FOLLOWING RECENT MAIDA VALE FLOODING

Labour Councillors have called for Westminster City Council’s Scrutiny Committee to organize a special meeting so that Thames Water can explain what they are doing to deal with the effects of the recent flooding in Maida Vale and what they will do to ensure it does not happen again. Labour Councillors say that it is essential that Thames Water is held accountable for the recent floods, which stretched from Shirland Road to Formosa Street, and that residents have the opportunity to challenge Thames Water on their actions to date.

Councillor Paul Dimoldenberg, Leader of the Labour Group said;

“The recent floods have devastated many local residents, some of whom have had to move out of the area because the damage to their flats was so bad. We are working closely with local residents’ group, Maida Flood Action who are preparing evidence on a street-by-street basis so that Thames Water are in no doubt as to the misery which has been caused to so many local families”

I have not been affected but in 2005 my sister was flooded on Holland Road, Shepherds Bush.

A sustained campaign on her part eventually lead to compensation and visits from the CEO of Thames water and its parent company.

If you have been affected make yourself known it will make a difference.

Thank you Shepherd's Bushs Sister for your encouragement! It really helps to know that we CAN get a result if we persist.
