THAMES WATER NOW TAKING FLOODING IN MAIDA* AREAS SERIOUSLY

This was clear at the Scrutiny Committee meeting on Tuesday 1st Dec - and the fact that the 'Maida' areas will now be included in TW's just announced £340 million investment programme** is indicative of this.

Obviously, the proof will come with identifiable action from TW, and collectively, MaidaFloodAction and Westminster Council will insist on regular updates on the progress they are making with their investigations, and TW will be held to account should they fail on this. We will also continue to push for the swift implementation of a flood relief program such as those provided for Kensal Rise & Bayswater, as opposed to a solution at the end of a 5 year plan.

One aspect of the floods that has been vastly understated is the financial cost to residents, landlords and businesses; the £500,000 repair bill for WECH properties alone indicates what we believe is the tip of the iceberg; taking into account the likely number of properties involved, it would not be unrealistic to suggest the actual cost (excluding personal distress) to be close to the £5 million mark, for the two floods of 2007 and 2009.

MFA and WECH have joined forces to provide TW with data, and the key objective of our upcoming meeting with TW is to pass on the flood data from residents and businesses who've completed a MFA survey from, as well as providing feedback on TW's data collection process and communications with residents.

We currently have forms for appx. 120 properties - yet we know there are many more people out there who are perhaps only now moving back into flood-damaged homes, and others who simply haven't had time to fill out forms whilst trying to get their lives back on track.

TO ENSURE OUR AREA IS GIVEN PRIORITY FUNDING, WE STILL NEED MORE DETAILS OF PROPERTIES THAT HAVE BEEN FLOODED!!

TO MAKE SURE EVERYONE'S HOME OR BUSINESS IS COUNTED, MFA REQUESTS ALL RESIDENTS AFFECTED BY FLOODING TO COMPLETE A SURVEY FORM
